What is Mohair

Christened the “diamond” fibre mohair is a high end luxury natural fibre produced by the Angora goat.

Used in the textiles industry for blankets, upholstery, clothing, yarn, knitting, high end garments it is the most versatile fibre.

Scarves, blankets, hats, jerseys, are produced locally in New Zealand.

Qualities of mohair are:

Lustre- its natural sheen and ability to take all dyes

Durability - strength to be twisted without damaging the fibre allowing for hardwearing.

Elasticity- can stretch and reshape itself to its original size

Non-flammable-singes not burns

Moisture retention-breaths by absorbing and releasing atmospheric moisture so makes it a light fabric to wear while maintaining warmth

Soiling resistance-easy to clean with woven fabrics shaking and brushing will remove any dust from the mohair garment
