Shearing

Goats are shorn twice a year, ie every six months. Once in spring and again in summer.
Shearing at the right time can give better returns.
Your shearing programme needs to fit in with mating and kidding in your area.
Shearing completed a few weeks prior to mating for bucks and does and a few weeks before kidding will help with kids finding access to the udder for drinking and the buck for servicing the does.

Ensure you have booked the shearer ahead of time and monitor weather reports. Always keep in contact with your shearer prior to shearing in regards to weather.
In the likely hood of wet weather place goats in shed shelter or re-schedule if not available,  as mohair cannot be shorn when wet.

On shearing day have goats yarded/penned up prior to the shearer coming and have bags/fadges ready to put  your mohair in after shearing.
Its a good idea to put dags and stained mohair in separate bags so it doesn't spoil the rest of the mohair and ensure all mohair is dry before sending to our warehouse.
This will maintain your mohair quality while in transit to our warehouse .

Good shearing management is always well rewarded.
